Selected from over 1100 submissions, Top Designs highlights the best design products and art produced by VCE and VET students across a range of disciplines, including fashion, graphics, furniture, props and costumes, film, print, photography and animation.
Although they’re the works of high school students, the pieces in Top Designs tackle urgent, real-world problems. There’s a skirt and bag made out of single-use plastic bags, a pill retriever for the arthritic and the elderly, inclusive classroom furniture, and a fire detection and emergency response system called FADER, which was inspired by the designer’s direct experience with the Black Saturday bushfires.
Alongside more practical designs, there’s also a suite of creative works, including street photography featuring the much-missed Sisto Malaspina, a fantasy saga set in the modern world and a theatre set based on the Lindy Chamberlain case.
Tickets to Top Designs are included with admission to the Melbourne Museum.
