Saint bernards and great danes have their charms but Welcome to Thornbury’s Tiny Dog Festival is one for the little guys.
Now in its second year, the one-day event is a chance for the pugs, chihuahuas, dachshunds, papillons, French bulldogs and other petite pooches of Melbourne to shine. As long as they weigh less than 10 kilos, they're considered a tiny dog.
From 12pm to 6pm, there's a line-up of competitions and activities, starting with the crowning of the city's tiniest dog at 2pm, followed by the best-dressed at 3.30pm, and finally, fastest, when the annual tiny dog race happens at 4.30pm.
There'll also be a marketplace with 15 stalls selling everything from dog fashion accessories (such as bow ties, bandanas, hats and collars) to organic dog treats. Plus, there’ll be beer specials at the bar for owners. Dogs of all sizes are welcome.
