Sunny Side Up Egg Dinner Party by Gruel
In egg-cellent news, Gruel is hosting an egg party at chef Steve Chan’s Carlton North wine bar Sleepy’s. This Sunday December 3 at 6pm, the experimental Melbourne supper club run by food writer Quincy Malesovas will be putting on a celebration of all things egg with the help of culinary talent Anna Lowe, Kurtis Tapaingaia (ex-Manze) and Chan.
Tickets are $60 per person and include three courses and two drinks. The menu will include spiced beetroot devilled eggs; a duck egg salad with quail tea egg and roe in a potato nest; and an egg flan with miso caramel.
There will also be egg-based drinks including eggnog (a holiday drink made with milk, beaten eggs and sugar) and a salted egg cream. The menu is pescatarian and can be made vegetarian, but not vegan.
Malesovas started Gruel as a pop-up dining series in 2019 with the idea of offering people a platform to get experimental and host food events that may not fit into traditional restaurant settings, and use food as a tool for cultural education.
Previous Gruel events have included a ferment-focused meal with chef Dennis Yong (ex-Parcs), held in his apartment; a seaweed spread at Mission to Seafarers; and a multi-artist food-informed exhibition that took place earlier this month and featured a human fruit platter.
