Sunday Service at Johnny’s Green Room
Sun Sep 14, 2025 – Sun Oct 12, 2025
Level 2, 293–297 Lygon Street, Carlton VIC 3053
Starting in September, the Sunday Service – a monthly series spotlighting Melbourne’s top chefs, cult wine releases and DJs curated by Hope St Radio – is coming to Johnny’s Green Room. Running across three sessions (September 14, October 12 and November 9), the program promises chef-designed street food, unreleased drops and laid-back rooftop energy.
Kicking things off on September 14, Mischa Tropp of Toddy Shop and the Hot-Listed Kolkata Cricket Club brings bold Indian flavours to the Lygon Street rooftop – think seekh kebabs with mint chutney and naan, plus paneer tikka with house-made paneer and charred vegetables. He’ll be joined by Bridget Mac of the celebrated young label Werkstatt Wines, pouring her just-released 2025 riesling, while Melbourne-based Maori producer Kuzco takes care of the tunes.
On October 12, Carnation Canteen ’s Audrey Shaw takes over with a selection of spring-inspired plates, paired with the debut 2025 rosé from Gum Wine, by former Grossi Florentino and King & Godfree sommelier George McCullough. Expect sunny, feel-good flavours and music to match from Indonesian and First Nations DJ Ewan Sutardy.
Finally, on November 9, Stavros Konis of Salona and Kafeneion – another venue on our Hot List – closes the Sunday Service series with his signature Mediterranean fare. Yarra Valley winemaker Alessandro Stefani will pour a 2024 sangiovese, rounding out the season in classic Italian style.
Each session will also feature a Campari spritz created exclusively for the day. Bookings aren’t strictly required, but with Johnny’s cult following and unbeatable rooftop views, we highly recommend you rock up early.
