The long-running St Kilda festival has cycled through many permutations since it debuted in 1980, from a few scrappy bands in beer gardens to wild, suburb-size block parties. Now in its 38th year the event is a more organised affair and is the suburb’s preeminent gathering of performers, visitors, local vendors, businesses and the surrounding community.
Regularly drawing around 400,000 to the area, the festival’s centre is a main stage on the foreshore delivering some of Australia’s biggest names. From there entertainment, food and drink options fan out all through the suburb, making a summer’s day at the festival the event of the season.
The 2018 St Kilda Festival line-up will be announced on January 9.
