Solar System Tours with Scienceworks x Mr West
Scienceworks has teamed up with Footscray bar Mr West to deliver a four-part, adults-only journey across the cosmos, with curated cocktails to match.
Each Thursday in June will see online viewers given a guided tour of planets through imagery, video, visualisations, and specialised software that accurately models the night sky. Each event can be completed with a curated cocktail package delivered to your door, or picked up from Mr West in Footscray.
In week one, the presenter-led show will explore Earth’s place in space in relation to the Moon and Sun, with a one-hour virtual tour that shares detailed imagery captured by the Great Melbourne Telescope (GMT) in the 19th century. Ogle while sipping a GMT GnT, made with That Boutique-y Gin Company’s Moonshot Gin.
In week two, warm the palate with a Spirit Rover – a crimson-hued concoction of Dolin Chambéryzette strawberry vermouth, Campari and soda water – while uncovering the inner rocky planets: Mercury, Venus, and Mars.
During session three, travel to the gas giants of Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune, while enjoying what looks like a nebula in a glass. Dubbed Cassini’s Journey, it mixes amontillado from Pennyweight Winery in Beechworth with Økar Gold liqueur, blue curaçao, Supasawa sour mixer and orange syrup.
The final event wraps up what we’ve learnt from our solar adventures, and leaves us with a cocktail as dark and stimulating as the night sky.
Each show runs for 45 minutes with 15 minutes of Q&A at the end. Tickets (one per household) are available as a season pass or to individual sessions. The cocktail package can be added separately by heading to the Mr West website and purchasing. The pack will be a one-off delivery that can be delivered prior to the first session or available to add- on throughout the series.
