Single Asian Female
After sold-out seasons in Sydney and Brisbane, Michelle Law’s debut play Single Asian Female is coming to Melbourne.
Law, an award-winning author and playwright, is known for her searing, hilarious takes on often-serious topics. Here she skewers race and gender in Australia, with the help of a family of whip-smart Asian-Australian women running a suburban Sunshine Coast Chinese joint.
Single Asian Female tells the story of the Wongs – two sisters pitted against each other by a mother trying to connect with her children across generational and cultural gaps.
For those unfamiliar with her work, Law co-authored a book with her brother Benjamin titled Sh-t Asian Mothers Say, and has contributed to numerous others, as well as a range of popular journals and publications. She won an Australian Writer’s Guild AWGIE award in 2012 for her screenwriting.
