Say Cheese Festival 2021 by Prahran Market
Prahran’s annual celebration of all things cheese is back this year. The events are all taking place online, but you can get different cheeses, cook-along ingredients and even grilled cheese toasties delivered to take part.
On Friday October 15, cheesemonger Anthony Femia of Maker & Monger and Diana Chan are sampling 13 different Victorian cheeses, all sourced from different market traders. You can join the event for free to learn more about the cheeses and their producers, or you can purchase a tasting box containing all the featured cheeses for $55.
The next day, Hero chef and TV presenter Karen Martini is teaching you to book a cheesy gruyere, cheddar and confit garlic tart at home. The $40 cookalong pack includes all the ingredients you need, or you can just watch along.
Also on Saturday October 16, Masterchef finalist Simon Toohey is taking things down a different path with a cook-along making vegan mac’n’cheese that tastes like the real deal. Ingredients and produce for this one cost $40.
And finally, on Sunday October 17, Prahran Market has invited top Melbourne chefs for the annual Grilled Cheese Invitational. Last year saw Annam’s Jerry Mai take out the top prize for a toastie with rendang, goat's cheese, pecorino and mozzarella – this year she’s judging, alongside Femia and Herald Sun food writer Kara Monssen. Contenders are Daughter in Law’s Jessi Singh, cheesemaker Giorgio Linguanti from That’s Amore and food writer Dani Valent. Keen? You can try them from the comfort of home, with all three contender toasties available in a pack for $45 – only 50 are available, so order early.
