Say Cheese Festival 2020

Thu 10th September, 2020 – Sat 12th September, 2020
Online
Price: $0–$120
The cheese festival has gone online but you can still taste-test international and Aussie cheeses, cook a cheesy Greek feast, and cheer on your fave local chef in Melbourne’s foremost cheese-toastie competition IRL.

Prahran Market’s annual cheese festival is coming back as three cheesy virtual events.

First up, on Thursday September 10 at 7pm, is a cheese-tasting tour of the world led by celebrity chef Tobie Puttock. You’ll learn about different varieties of cheese, sourced from Spain to Warrnambool. Order a $55 tasting pack to sample 14 cheeses at home (enough for two people) with gluten-free crackers.

On Friday night from 6pm, cookbook author and founder of the market’s Sweet Greek stall Kathy Tsaples will live-stream a cooking class and help you prep a three-course Mediterranean feast. The recipe kit is $120 and you’ll end up with enough spicy feta dip; saganaki with thyme-infused honey; cheese-and-spinach pita with filo pastry and Greek salad; and ricotta-and-blueberry cheesecake to feed a household.

The final event, at 3pm Saturday, is the market’s Grilled Cheese Invitational. This year, chefs Raph Rashid (Beatbox Kitchen, Juanita Peaches, Raph’s Mean Cuisine), Jerry Mai (Annam, Pho Nom, Bia Hoi) and Philip Vakos (Bahari) will go toastie-to-toastie to see who makes the city’s best.

Orders for cheese packs and recipe kits must be placed by Sunday September 6 at 5pm. Delivery is available within an eight-kilometre radius of the market and costs $15.

It's free to tune into the events but you’ll need to register in advance.
