Roku Gin Sakura Terrace at Bar 12
Inspired by Japanese sakura, or cherry blossom flowers, which bloom in spring, Roku Gin is taking over the terrace at Ocean 12 – a new restaurant, whisky and karaoke bar at Crown.
Under a canopy of pink flowers, sip sakura-themed gin cocktails while overlooking the city skyline, or order from the special menu featuring items such as fresh market sashimi, vegetarian bento boxes, and Japanese tea sable (French shortbread cookies) with a cherry blossom fromage. Roku translates to “six”, and Roku Gin uses six Japanese botanicals, including the sakura flower, sakura leaf, yuzu peel, Sencha tea, gyokuro tea and sanshō pepper. Each is individually distilled in Osaka before being blended with the eight traditional gin botanicals.
For those interested in learning more, a series of gin cocktail masterclasses will run throughout the month-long pop-up. There, you’ll create and taste three gin cocktails, while being served food to match. The classes run on November 7, 12, 21 and 28. The class will cover Roku Gin & Tea (gin, Sencha green tea syrup, lemon juice and soda water), Roku Yuzu (gin, yuzu juice, lemon juice and orgeat syrup) and a Japanese Negroni (gin, Campari, sweet vermouth and shiso umeshu). Ocean 12 is an indoor-outdoor venue with more than 30 private karaoke rooms and 140,000 songs to choose from in six – or should we say, “roku” – languages.
