The Poodle team’s “Italian Macca’s” is heading to Brunswick this weekend for a carby Italian dinner (think focaccia, veal bolognese and tiramisu) and a sandwich pop-up, including the return of its signature meatball sub.

Back in August, the Poodle Bar & Bistro team announced permanent digs for Rocco’s Bologna Discoteca, their successful lockdown pop-up that channelled “Italian Macca’s” in the Poodle space during its initial reno.

While we’re still waiting for deets on when and where the new spot will be, Rocco’s is heading to Brunswick for a weekend pop-up at wine bar-turned-lockdown-bottle shop Rascal. Rocco’s head chef Josh Fry and Rascal’s Kyle Nicol are teaming up in two ways.

There’s a carby new Rascal at-home menu this week, riffing on classic Italian comfort food like nonna used to make, with herb and confit garlic focaccia, fermented giardiniera (vegetables); wild weed and pecorino torta with egg and dried chilli; veal bolognese with baked ziti, braised roman beans and tomato, a salad of wild rocket, smoked lemon and parmesan cheese; and a Rocco’s tiramisu to finish off. The vegetarian option is an eggplant parmigiana with passata, mozzarella and basil.

It’s $49 per person (minimum of two), with pick-up or local delivery on Friday October 1 and Saturday 2.

Or you can opt for a more casual feed with a sandwich pop-up, featuring Fry’s popular meatball sub (a saucy number with pork-and-veal meatballs cooked in sugo, salsa verde and aioli); Rocco’s picante bologna (fried bologna, provolone, pickles and fermented Calabrian chilli), and the melanzane, an eggplant parma sandwich with mozzarella, red sauce, rocket and basil.

The pop-up is open from 11am to 3pm on Saturday October 2 and Sunday 3.
