Catch 300 live-music gigs around the state – featuring artists like Baker Boy, Emma Donovan and the Putbacks, Isaiah Firebrace and more – thanks to a $5 million initiative.

“Live music is back” is a declaration that’s been made after almost every lockdown, but this time it rings more true. Fresh off the return of Melbourne Music Week, a huge new government initiative has been announced aimed at helping artists, music venues and promoters bounce back.

It’s called On the Road Again, and the Victorian government has given $5 million in grants to 34 individuals and groups in the industry.

The money is being put towards more than 300 live music shows around the state throughout 2022, including performances by Baker Boy, Emma Donovan and the Putbacks, Isaiah Firebrace, Kaiit, Gordi and Music in Exile all on the event calendar.

Music festivals are set to return, including Ocean Sounds on Phillip Island and Gembrook’s Gaytimes Festival this summer. And under-18s can see all their favourite local acts with 20 youth music gigs scheduled for the Push All-Ages Tour.

More than 60 events have already been announced as part of the initiative, with plenty more in the works.
