The opening weekend of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival unites a community on the banks of the Yarra.

The River Graze weekend is a culinary festival within a festival. Bringing together Victoria’s best wine, beer, food, desserts and entertainment, more than 60 producers will set up between Federation Square and Crown River Walk on the banks of the Yarra during the first weekend of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, to offer their wares.

Here’s a handful of highlights to get you started.

Queensbridge Square BBQ and Beer Garden
Head to Queensbridge Square for Stomping Ground Brewing Co.’s pop-up beer garden and a whole lot of barbequed meat from Hoy Pinoy, Bluebonnet Barbeque and a handful of Melbourne’s best butchers. Guests can top off their choice of grill at the Heinz Saucing Station, too.

City Cellar
Purchase a tasting glass and work your way through some of Victoria’s best regional drops without leaving Melbourne. There will also be live music, seafood and charcuterie boards, and the St Germain Spritz Bar on hand for refreshments.

Gradi Presents AVPN Melbourne Pizza Festival
Beloved Melbourne pizzaiolo and owner of the Gradi conglomerate (400 Gradi, Gradi Crown, 90 Secondi) Johnny Di Francesco will be serving authentic Naples-style pizzas all weekend. Pasta, gelato, wine and live entertainment is on the menu too.

Edible Garden
Hosted by Broadsheet and Bank of Melbourne, this garden will showcase herbs, fruit and vegetables to interact with and learn about. Get tips from the on-site experts from Little Veggie Patch Co about how to grow your own at home. Runs on Saturday March 17 and Sunday March 18 from 12pm to 6pm.

River Graze Market
Head to the market for a convenient cross-section of produce from Victoria’s most seasoned growers and makers. Expect Chilton’s pastries; 5 & Dime Bagels, Pop-Bite’s gourmet popcorn, Good Earth’s Kombucha and more. It opens on Saturday March 17 and Sunday March 18 from 12pm to 6pm.
