Rites of Passage Tattoo Festival
The Royal Exhibition Building is hosting a tattoo festival this weekend. There'll be more than 350 local and international tattoo artists there, so it’s a great way to shop around for some ink.
Booths from studios including Sydney’s Darling Parlour and Melbourne’s Black Mark, Oculus Tattoo and Good Luck Tattoo will be showing punters the latest in tattoo trends and designs. Other guests include internationally renowned US tattoo artist Nikko Hurtado and Australian rapper Briggs, who will be co-hosting a segment called Australia’s Worst Tattoos (where you’re encouraged to show off your biggest regrets).
Across the three days there’ll be seminars on tattoo artistry, giveaways, live music and vendors selling tattoo-related wares.
There are design competitions for artists, too, in categories such as best photo realism, best lettering and tattoo of the day. Or, if you’ve got some impressive art on your own skin, you can enter best sleeve.
There’ll be food trucks parked outside with snacks from Sliders on Tyres, St. Gerry’s, Primo Street Pizza, Poke Time and The Kraken Squid.
You can even go home with a permanent souvenir in the form of some fresh ink.
