Reclink Community Cup 2022
The beloved grassroots footy game that pits local media against musos for a great cause is finally back – with its first Melbourne game since 2019.
It’ll be the 26th instalment of Reclink Community Cup, and – on top of the annual head-to-head between the Megahertz (made up of players from Triple R and PBS community radio stations) and the Rockdogs – there’s a killer musical line-up to celebrate.
This year’s theme is “Let Love Rule”, inspired by Gunditjmara and Bundjalung singer-songwriter Archie Roach; it’s taken from the title of his seventh studio album and song of the same name.
Punters willing to brave the cold will also be treated to sets from blistering rockers Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, in between dates on their huge European tour; party-punk heroes Private Function; ’60s-style garage four-piece Parsnip; border-crossing groove ensemble Ausecuma Beats; and neo-soul group Izy.
Pre-pandemic, more than 10,000 avid fans turned out each year for the cup, which raises funds for Reclink’s specialist sport, recreation and art programs for at-risk youth, people with mental illness or disability, people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence, and those struggling with addiction. Now the charity is hoping to make up the lost funding from the last couple of years.
Tickets are $25 (plus booking fee) for adults and available now.
