Providoor Cooking Class With Movida’s Frank Camorra

With lockdown again in full swing, there’s precious few ways to be enjoying restaurant-quality dishes right now. Providoor, the new high-end food delivery service from Maha’s Shane Delia, is leading the charge, offering delivery of chef-prepped ingredients and ready-made meals from some of the city’s best venues to your home.

As well as being able to order online, Broadsheet and Providoor are hosting live, weekly cooking classes with some of the country’s top chefs. Over six weeks you can tune in to Providoor’s Instagram every Friday evening, and cook along with the very chefs who designed your meal.

It works like this: on Mondays you’ll find out what dishes they’ll be preparing (sign up for updates here) and you’ll have until Wednesday at 4pm to order the meal box, which will be delivered Friday morning. Meals, plus classes, are $130 and feed two people.

The fifth instalment (August 14 at 6.30pm) will feature Frank Camorra from the beloved, much-imitated Spanish tapas hub Movida. The one-hour class will take you through three dishes, step by step: pork and cuttlefish meatballs, artichokes Bar Juanito-style and patatas a la pobre con chorizo (slow-braised potatoes with peppers and La Boqueria chorizo). Your kit includes all the ingredients to cook along at home, including instructions and dinnerware from homewares store Salt & Pepper.

The cooking classes are an extension of Providoor’s standard "finish at home" experience. Instead of travelling hot – with the flavour and overall culinary experience slowly deteriorating on the journey – each Providoor meal is specifically designed to travel. The kitchen at your restaurant of choice will prepare your meal, cook it most of the way, allow it to cool, package it, then deliver it to you, ready to be finished off and plated. In addition to Movida, some of Broadsheet’s favourite restaurants – including Maha, Estelle, Flower Drum, Bar Margaux, Hazel, Supernormal, Tipo 00, Lucy Liu and Sunda – are on board.
