With everyone back in lockdown, Melbourne’s restaurants have again suspended dine-in service and returned to takeaway. But the news isn’t all gloomy. Providoor, the new high-end food delivery service from Maha’s Shane Delia, is delivering restaurant-quality meals from some of the city’s best venues to your home.
To complement your delivery, Broadsheet and Providoor are also hosting six live, weekly cooking classes with some of the country’s top chefs. Tune in to Providoor’s Instagram every Friday evening, and cook along with the chefs who designed your meal.
It works like this: on Mondays you’ll find out what dishes they’ll be preparing (sign up for updates here) and you’ll have until Wednesday at 4pm to order the meal box, which will be delivered Friday morning. Meals, plus classes, are $130 and feed two people.
Following the success of classes with Shane Delia, Scott Pickett and Teage Ezard, the fourth instalment (live-streaming on August 7 at 6.30pm) will feature Khanh Nguyen from innovative Southeast Asian spot Sunda. The one-hour class will take you step-by-step through three dishes: marinated lamb ribs, coconut flatbread and green papaya salad with a coriander, spring onion, ginger and jalapeno relish. Your kit includes all the ingredients you’ll need to cook along at home, including instructions and dinnerware from homewares store Salt & Pepper.
The cooking classes are an extension of Providoor’s standard “finish at home” experience. Instead of travelling hot – with the flavour, texture and overall culinary experience slowly deteriorating on the journey – each Providoor meal is specifically designed to travel. The kitchen at your chosen restaurant will prepare your meal, cook it most of the way, allow it to cool, package it, then deliver it to you, ready to be finished off and plated. In addition to Sunda, some of Broadsheet’s favourite restaurants – including Maha, Estelle, Flower Drum, Bar Margaux, Hazel, Supernormal, Tipo 00, Lucy Liu and Movida – are on board.
Book your class and order your meal box here. Orders for Khanh Nguyen’s class close on Wednesday August 5 at 4pm.
