With everyone back in lockdown, Melbourne’s restaurants have again suspended dine-in service and returned to takeaway. But the news isn’t all gloomy. Providoor, the high-end food delivery service from Maha’s Shane Delia, is delivering restaurant-quality meals from some of the city’s best venues, to your home.
As a part of your delivery, Broadsheet and Providoor are also hosting live, weekly cooking classes with some of the country’s top chefs. Tune in to Providoor’s Instagram to cook along with the chefs who designed your meal.
Following the success of classes with chefs such as Scott Pickett, Teage Ezard, Khanh Nguyen and Frank Camorra, Providoor has extended the run of its live cooking classes. They’ve also expanded to include a Sunday afternoon of chocolate-y decadence – specifically with Darren Purchese of beloved pastry emporium Burch and Purchese on Sunday August 23 at 3pm. He’ll be showing you how to cook one of his bespoke chocolate dessert creations – 67 per cent chocolate cream with passionfruit, orange and salted caramel.
Your kit includes all the ingredients to cook along at home, including instructions and six tumblers for you to serve your desserts in from homewares store Salt & Pepper. You’ll have to order by 4pm on Thursday 20 August. and you will receive your ingredients on the morning of Saturday 22 August. Meals, plus classes, are $130 and feed two people.
The cooking classes are an extension of Providoor’s standard ‘finish at home’ experience. Instead of travelling hot – with the flavour and overall culinary experience slowly deteriorating on the journey – each Providoor meal is specifically designed to travel. The kitchen at your restaurant of choice will prepare your meal, cook it most of the way, allow it to cool, package it, then deliver it to you, ready to be finished off and plated. In addition to Movida, some of Broadsheet’s favourite restaurants – including Maha, Estelle, Flower Drum, Bar Margaux, Hazel, Supernormal, Tipo 00, Lucy Liu and Sunda – are on board.
Book your class and order your meal box here. Orders for Darren Purchese’s class close 4pm on Thursday 20 August.
