Say Cheese Festival
At Prahran Market’s annual Say Cheese Festival, expect cooking demonstrations from notable chefs and cheese pairings with champagne, beer and chocolate. Event ambassador and chef Tobie Puttock will open the festival with a hands-on cheese-making session for kids.
Traders across the whole market are getting in on the action. Resident stallholders such as Mr Hoddle and Farini will have special cheese stalls, and most stalls will have tastings and special items for sale (swing by the Fresh Pasta Store for cheese-filled pasta and Fritz Gelato for a cheese gelato).
The annual Grilled Cheese Invitational – in which chefs are invited to battle it out for the title of best grilled cheese in Melbourne – returns for 2019. Contestants include Melbourne-based Turkish chef Coskun Uysal, Frankie Cox (ex-Two Hands and Charlie Carrington (Atlas Dining, Lomah. The line-up could even include you, with a wildcard spot to be filled by the winner of the Grilled Cheese Wildcard Invitational Wildcard Comp, which is open to anyone.
DJ Nina Sinclair will provide tunes at the Mezzanine Bar from 12pm to 4pm, and there’ll be street artists and face-painting for the kids.
The event is free so there’s no need to register, but if you’re interested in any of the tasting and pairing events you’ll need to book online.
