Port's Howl-O-Ween Parade
Where one man’s pooch is a furry ball of joy, to another they can be barky and terrifying. Same with clowns – red-nosed friendly jokesters or demon hell-spawn – it’s up for debate. People with cynophobia (dog fear) and coulrophobia (clown scaries) are advised to avoid Port Melbourne’s Howl-o-ween Paw Parade, because one sick pupper parent is surely going to make Dog It a reality.
On the last Sunday of October, dog-owners are invited to cover both themselves and their little mates in fake blood and roam the streets on a dog-friendly trick or treat outing. Each mutt will receive a goody bag and there will be specific checkpoints along the parade route, where they can pick up extra loot. Humans can enjoy snacks from local producers.
Throughout the day there will be competitions, entertainment and pampering options for both pets and owners. All registration fees will be donated to The Lost Dogs Home in North Melbourne. Register early and you will receive a free portrait for Rex from Erin King Photographer.
Hopefully dogs don’t get hyped up from treats the same way as kids, we don’t want the day to end in a mass mauling.
The event runs from 11am–3pm. Register for the the parade now at the Port’s Howl-O-Ween website.
