Get butter chicken, dal, naan and more from the chef who spearheaded The Rochey’s short-lived but excellent Southern Indian menu – all for $30.

For a little over a year, the Rochester Hotel in Fitzroy had one of the most exciting pub menus in Melbourne: Southern Indian fare courtesy of Keralan chef Mischa Tropp, who eventually left the venue in 2019 to travel around India learning about its myriad regional cuisines.

Since returning to Australia, he’s spent the last three lockdowns delivering one-off dinners. This time around he’s teaming up with Pope Joan to deliver butter chicken over the weekend.

The menu includes butter chicken alongside dal makhani, naan, raita, pickled onion and a saffron-and-cumin rice; there’s also paneer instead of chicken for a vegetarian option.

It costs $30 per person; pick-up is from Pope Joan on Friday and Saturday (from 12pm to 3pm) or delivery is available on Friday for $15. Only 140 serves are available and half has already been taken – you know what to do.
