The Playground at Docklands
City of Melbourne is transforming the promenades and parks of Docklands into a playground of face painting, workshops and roving performers for the school holidays.
Part carnival and part pastel dreamscape, The Playground brings the giant flowers, pirates and fairies of storybooks to life with three distinct installations.
At Unicorn Garden, rainbow archways lead to pillowy fairy floss and larger-than-life unicorn puppets. Kids can join the fairies in their workshop to craft a kaleidoscope, before heading over to Wonder Land for The Curious Game – an interactive 45-minute show of fairy tales and board games. In Wonder Land’s sensorial garden, play jumbo wind chimes amid towering coral, cacti and flowers. Elsewhere a bubble walkway leads to Pirates Cove, where kids can climb the mast of the shipwreck obstacle course or walk the plank to arrive at a desert island.
The Playground is set across New Quay Central Park, New Quay Promenade and District Docklands and is designed for children aged four to 12 years.
While the main affair runs Thursday April 15 to Sunday April 18, catch a sneak peek of Wonder Land between Friday April 9 and Sunday April 11.
