Classical and electronic music combine in unconventional surroundings.

Play On returns for its third series this September, bringing together some of Australia’s finest artists in a partially derelict former technical school.

The festival’s opening night will see Melbourne pianist Tristan Lee – accompanied by Blair Harris on cello and violinist Francesca Hiew – perform Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 14. The trio will then perform music from composers Arvo Part and Dmitri Shostakovich.

Melbourne underground electronic stalwart Harold follows up their performance. The label boss of Steeplejack Records, Harold performed the closing set at this year’s Golden Plains festival.

The Collingwood Arts Precinct, a former TAFE college, is being transformed into a state-of-the-art performing arts venue due to open in 2018, but is hosting events in the meantime.

Beer and wine will be available courtesy of Sample and Cake Wines. Starts at 8pm.

Play On was founded in 2016 to bring classical and electronic music to new audiences in more authentic, unconventional venues, away from concert halls.

The last edition of Play On took over the Collingwood Underground Car Park back in April and featured Brooke Powers and Millú.
