The annual Peninsula Picnic will once again take over Mornington Racecourse in 2020 with live music and the best of the region's restaurants and wineries in one place. If you were looking for an excuse to head south, here it is.

Leading the music line-up is national treasure and former Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning. The Wish You Well singer is returning to Victoria for the first time since 2017, and he’ll perform an extended set of all his hits for your toe-tapping pleasure.

Also on the bill: ARIA Award-nominated blues-and-roots duo Mama Kin Spender, indie-folk outfit Hollow Coves, “surf rockers” Caravana Sun, and local groovers The Meltdown.

Food-wise, expect a laundry list of the region’s greats: Merricks General Wine Store, Green Olive at Red Hill, D.O.C. Mornington, Casa de Playa (and its paella) and Tucks.

Ten Minutes by Tractor will bring its wines along to the picnic for the first time ever (after reopening its cellar door, which suffered a devastating fire in February 2019), and there’ll be elegant single-vineyard drops from Rare Hare at Willow Creek Vineyard.

Other wines will come from Montalto, Polperro and Prancing Horse, and there’ll be beers from St Andrews Beach Brewery and a Gordon’s Pink Gin bar.

There’ll also be sessions with top winemakers, market stalls from local artisans, and activities for kids.

From 11.30am to 7pm.
