PBS Radio Festival

Price: From $85
Radio, set, go – the community station is giving away prizes (including double passes to Golden Plains and a Vespa scooter) to new and renewing members. Plus: free shirts, pub discounts and more.

Nearly 45 years after The Buggles proclaimed that Video Killed the Radio Star, it clearly isn’t the case. And while radio’s big competition now is against streaming giants like Spotify, the airwaves continue to be ridden in the name of connection and highlighting local music.

To keep the mics on, frequencies transmitting and tunes playing, community radio stations like PBS 106.7FM rely on financial support from listeners. In return? Fun chats and banter all day, a platform to discover new bands and artists, and live gigs throughout the year.

To sweeten the deal for subscribers, PBS is once again hosting its two-week Radio Festival fundraiser, where new and renewing members get the chance to win great prizes.

Anyone who signs up during the two-week fundraising period goes into the running to win daily prize packs, and all new or renewing members in May and June go into the running for the major prize draw, which includes a double pass to Golden Plains, with private vehicle transfers and a luxury powered caravan; a Vespa Primavera 50 scooter; a Guild F-250CE Deluxe Acoustic Guitar; and more.

And if that’s not enough, all members get discounts to heaps of businesses around Melbourne and Victoria, including Richmond’s Corner Hotel, Northcote Social Club, Pasta Classica in Collingwood, The Plough Hotel in Footscray, Northside Records, Plug Seven Records, Rocksteady Records, White Rabbit Record Bar, Paperback Bookshop, Cinema Nova, Palace Cinemas, Lido Cinemas, Crumpler, Collingwood Children’s Farm and plenty more.

PBS has multiple membership tiers, starting at $85 (or $40 for concession) and going all the way up to $1600. Each tier comes with different goodies (like weekly “thank you” shout-outs, a subscription to PBS’s Waves magazine and invites to special events). Plus, all new subscribers to the Passionate, Patron, Business, Friend for a Decade and Friend for Life tiers will get exclusive PBS Radio Festival T-shirts.
