TarraWarra Museum of Art
311 Healesville-Yarra Glen Rd Tarrawarra 3775

An exhibition of works by two Australian art icons, exploring intimacy, relationships and maternal devotion.

In the early hours of November 22, 2018 a large, whale-like mammal with ten hanging udders floated over the Yarra Valley.

Having visited Japan, Ireland and Brazil, Skywhale – the sky-high sculpture created five years ago by Patricia Piccinini for Canberra’s 100th birthday – appeared above the picturesque region to mark the opening of an exhibition of works by the contemporary visual artist, and modernist artist Joy Hester.

Patricia Piccinini and Joy Hester: Through love … at the Tarrawarra Museum of Art explores love and intimacy through more than 50 works by the two Australian artists, including a new sculpture by Piccinini (recognised globally for her hyperreal, lifelike work) and several Hester rarities.

The exhibition coincides with the 15th anniversary of the museum, which was created to celebrate Australian art from the second half of the 20th century to the present.
