Northcote Social Club 20th Anniversary
This year, Melbourne music institution Northcote Social Club – which has hosted Aussie artists like Courtney Barnett, Camp Cope and even a secret Lady Gaga afterparty – is celebrating two decades of gigs and good times.
To mark the milestone, the team (also behind Richmond’s Corner Hotel) is throwing a two-month-long party, running from June through August. It’s hosting 20 gigs for 20 years.
Festivities will kick off with a free show on June 30, featuring performances by Melbourne-based Afro-soul band Owelu Dreamhouse and avant-pop-rock band Eggy, plus Cong Josie & The Hell Racers. There’ll also be $20 chicken and eggplant parmas and $10 pints of Mountain Goat beer.
The line-up features familiar faces who’ve helped shape Northcote Social Club’s history as well emerging artists. There’ll be shows by Kingswood, Augie March, Nai Palm, Jazzparty, Alice Ivy and Jordie Lane, plus a run of curated nights from Collective Artists, Poison City Records and PBS. Come along to a series of matinee shows as well, including local band Gut Health and Australia’s Eurovision entrant Go-Jo.
Round out the celebrations with a closing party on August 29 featuring a performance by Australian South Sudanese singer Ajak Kwai.
