Nocturnal x Midsumma: Lunar New Year Disco
Since 1989, Midsumma Festival has delighted Melbourne with its vibrant, energetic celebration of LGBTQIA+ arts and culture. Now, at Melbourne Museum, they will throw the most inclusive, pulsating party of the summer.
Midsumma’s Nocturnal takeover, the Lunar New Year Disco, will revolve around queer street dance battles reminiscent of the 1970s disco era in LA. Contestants will battle it out in waacking and punking duels (if you haven’t seen these dances before, look them up now) in two tournaments, a one-on-one battle and a Punking Dramatics showdown.
The judges are no slouches either. Ru Paul’s Drag Race royalty Pangina Heals and world-renowned waacking icon Chrissy Chou will host the night, with the champion of the waacking battle winning a spot battling Chou in Taipei in November 2020. You can enter when you buy your ticket, just select the category you want to compete in.
For lovers of disco, all you need to do is hang back and watch while the magic happens. You’ll also have access to the rest of the museum if you can tear your eyes away from the dancers.
From 7pm to 11pm.
