After sold-out performances at Yirramboi, the smash hit musical show brings its potent mix of humour, vaudeville, horror and First Nations excellence to Asia Topa this February.

In 2023, A Nightime Travesty – originally commissioned for Yirramboi Festival – burst onto the stage with a heady combo of satirical Blak humour, vibrant visuals, vaudeville and existential horror. Nearly two years later, a revamped production arrives at Malthouse for an exclusive series of performances this February as part of Asia Topa.

Co-created by Kamarra Bell-Wykes and Carly Sheppard, who together lead theatre collective A Daylight Connection, A Nightime Travesty takes place on the last plane hurtling out of Earth. Onboard, a motley crew of passengers navigate the absurd world inside the vessel, with the 90-minute wild ride traversing dark comedy, gruesome horror and explosive musical numbers – with a live band and incredible costumes to boot.

Directed by Stephen Nicolazzo, this refreshed version of the show features an impressive cast and crew of independent First Nations artists, reimagining what a First Nations performance can be.

Tickets are on sale now. A Nightime Travesty is presented by Malthouse Theatre and Asia TOPA, Arts Centre Melbourne.

Broadsheet is a proud media partner of Malthouse Theatre.
