Rediscover Yarra is a post-lockdown initiative designed to reconnect the community with music, festivals and exhibitions. The Leaps and Bounds Music Festival is part of this initiative and is back for winter with a jam-packed offering of events and musical showcases. Running from Friday June 24 until Sunday July 24, the festival runs in over 40 venues across Melbourne, bringing together performers and audiences for some winter entertainment.

On Saturday July 9, award-winning actor, Aboriginal elder and activist, and national treasure Uncle Jack Charles heads to Collingwood Town Hall for an evening of truth, love, laughter and storytelling like no other. A Stolen Generation survivor, Jack has spent his life between acting gigs and, in his words, addiction, crime and doing time. Having escaped the cycle, he regularly takes to the stage to share his extraordinary story.

Originally hosted at the historic Curtin Hotel, A Night With Uncle Jack has gone on to be hosted at the Malthouse Theatre, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Trades Hall Council, Melba Spiegeltent and Castlemaine Gaol – and has become, much like its central figure, the stuff of local legend. Uncle Jack is often joined by surprise special guests, and this performance will be no exception. Previous guests include Archie Roach, Baker Boy, Emma Donovan, Kutcha Edwards, Cash Savage, Jen Cloher and Shane Howard – who all shared in and celebrated Uncle Jack’s colourful life and career through words, music and storytelling.

Tickets are $30 general admission and $20 concession, with limited door sales subject to availability.

A Night with Uncle Jack Charles is happening as part of Rediscover Yarra: Yarra City Council’s post-lockdown initiative to reconnect the community with the music, festivals and exhibitions that set Melbourne apart from other destinations.
