NGV Friday Nights: Yayoi Kusama

Fri 20th December, 2024 – Fri 18th April, 2025
Ground Level, NGV Garden, NGV International
Price: $23–$45
Enjoy Friday nights this summer (and spring) with a side of DJs, drinks, food and an after-hours labyrinth of never-ending polka dots.

Showing at the National Gallery of Victoria until April 21, Yayoi Kusama is the largest exhibition of the Japanese artist’s work ever staged in Australia. The world-premiere exhibition has it all, from kaleidoscopic infinity mirror rooms and dancing pumpkins to immersive installations with a seemingly never-ending stream of Kusama’s iconic polka dot motif. It’s also the setting for this summer’s edition of NGV Friday Nights – your after-hours ticket to the exhibition, complete with drinks, food and music.

In January, enjoy sets from renowned DJs like eclectic tastemaker DIJOK and Melbourne music scene heavyweight DJ JNETT. In February, spend Valentine’s Day with local queer producer D Tyrone and close out the month with a set from genre-bending Malaysian Australian producer Yeo. In March, Charlie Villas returns along with club-influenced DJ Aqueerius, musician and producer Rainbow Chan and DIY stalwart Shah Sharafi. For April, favourites DJ JNETT and DIJOK make a comeback, along with local multi-hyphenate Tanzer.

Also gracing the program are several specially curated nights, with Australia’s premier LGBTQIA+ cultural festival Midsumma (February 7) and major triennial of Asia-Pacific performance Asia Topa (February 21) taking the helm.

As always, NGV Friday Nights tickets include late-night exhibition access, offering unlimited entry to Yayoi Kusama at NGV International from 6pm to 10pm.
