NGV at Chadstone
Fine art meets fashion this winter at Chadstone – The Fashion Capital, with the National Gallery of Victoria partnering with the cultural epicentre to present three bespoke pop ups.
From Friday June 10 until Sunday July 10, celebrate Chadstone’s partnership with the NGV’s Melbourne Winter Masterpieces: The Picasso Century exhibition with a range of hands-on experiences at Chadstone.
On Friday to Sunday evenings until July 10, head along to The Cubist Studio – a series of masterclasses taking place after dark, including still life digital drawing classes and collage-making workshops with artist and illustrator Alice Oehr; and an artist-led ceramic painting masterclass, where you’ll paint a decorative Robert Gordon ceramic to take home with you after. Classes are $40 each and run for 1 hour and 15 minutes – bookings are essential.
Just outside Mecca Cosmetica on Chadstone’s Ground Level, you’ll find Make a Creature – a game of chance based on Spanish artist Remedios Varo’s evocative photo collages. A digital, surrealist spin on the traditional game Consequences (the one where you draw something on a piece of paper, fold it over, and pass it onto the next player). Make a Creature also offers players the chance to win a double pass to Melbourne Winter Masterpieces: The Picasso Century exhibition. Share a photo on Instagram of the creature you create with the tag #NGVatChadstone, and you’ll go in the running to win.
Kids are catered for during the school holidays – visit the Emerging Artists Space between Saturday June 25 and Sunday July 10, where a dedicated zone for kids to get creative through 3D sculpture, drawing and take-home activities takes place. Located just outside Target, there will be free 45-minute sessions running throughout the day between 11am and 4pm.
