New York’s Please Don’t Tell at the Black Pearl
You know that bar in New York people are always talking about; the one you enter through a secret phone booth inside a hot dog joint? Unless you’re one of the lucky ones who've made it in to this East Village cocktail den, that may be all you know. But that's about to change.
For four nights only, beginning August 6 and ending August 9, the duo behind New York’s now-legendary Please Don’t Tell (PDT) are hosting a pop-up event in The Attic at Fitzroy's Black Pearl. Bartenders Jim Meehan and Jeff Bell, the 2013 Diageo World Class US Bartender of the Year, will be recreating the snug speakeasy space that's been a regular name at the top of best bar lists worldwide since PDT opened eight years ago.
It wouldn’t be a proper PDT emulate without the bar snacks, so alongside Meehan and Bell's classic cocktails and PDT signatures, they've called in local smokers Bluebonnet BBQ to deliver the hotdogs.
Whether it’s the Bulleit Bourbon Sweet Tea Smash or the bacon-wrapped chilli coleslaw and jalapeno house hotdog that draw you in, or you'd like to pay homage to these two paragons of the bar, it’s a rare chance to witness what the fuss is about.
Three sessions will be held each night from August 6-9, with 6-8pm, 8-10pm and 10pm-12am sittings, but within hours of them going online at Eventbrite on Monday, all spots had been snapped up.
