Johnny's Green Room, the bar sitting atop the heritage-listed King & Godfree building, is bringing in some hospo friends for a one-day-only Tex-Mex takeover.
Casey Wall of Bar Liberty and Capitano and Chris Watson of Meatsmith (and ex-Cutler & Co) have designed a one-off menu of Mexican-American classics – expect totopos con queso (corn chips with nacho cheese sauce), pine mushroom quesadillas, smoked brisket burnt ends hard shell tacos with guac and a fried chicken sandwich, chipotle mayo, guajillo chillis and tomato salsa.
Neighbouring Pidapipo is also stepping up to the plate, with a sweet-corn gelato taco with capsicum and strawberry jam, poached cucumber and peanut croquant.
To drink, the Johnny's 8 Ball is a mix of Blanco tequila, mezcal, Aperol, yellow chartreuse and lime, and Kiwi brewery Garage Project has a Golden Path IPA on tap. DJ Chico G will be spinning tunes from the afternoon well into the evening.
Entry is free. From 12pm.
