Neon Art at Northcote Rise
During the day, the colourful installations dotting Civic Square at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre are cute and playful. But at night, they come to life and light up the space, making for a fun photo opp.
They are by Carla O’Brien, a visual artist specialising in LED Neon Flex, a more modern alternative to glass neon lights. Her work has been featured at White Night, Illuminate Adelaide, the Royal Melbourne Zoo, Burning Man in the US and the Festival of Light in the UK. Katy Perry is a fan, snapping herself wearing O’Brien’s signature neon wings in 2016.
The installation is part of an initiative to revitalise Northcote Rise, the new name for the strip between 176 and 409 High Street, Northcote.
