Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour brings NASSIM – a bold theatrical social experiment – to Arts Centre Melbourne.
Over the course of five nights, Soleimanpour will be joined on stage by a different Australian actor (Alison Bell, Benjamin Law, Charlie Pickering, Nakkiah Lui, Catherine McClements or Denise Scott).
The actors are not allowed to rehearse for the show. A script in a sealed box awaits them on stage; they will read it for the first time in front of the audience, and the playwright himself.
Described by the Guardian as “a clever, subversive piece about the slipperiness of language and meaning”, NASSIM is a cunningly humorous, open-hearted show.
NASSIM follows Soleimanpour’s globally acclaimed White Rabbit Red Rabbit. Written when he was forbidden to leave his native Iran, Soleimanpour sent the show on tour without him. Since then it has been translated into more than 25 languages and has been performed more than 1000 times.
