Sold Out: Nama at Leonardo’s Pizza Palace

Sun 21st March, 2021
3:00pm – 9:00pm
29 Grattan Street Carlton 3053
Two former staff from Hong Kong’s Michelin-starred Yardbird are bringing cacio e pepe udon, chicken yakitori, and XO arancini to Carlton for one day only.

Update (March 15): Bookings for the set menu have sold out. The event is still open to walk-in’s for drinks and bar snacks.

Bar manager Geoff Marett and Caelan O’Rourke are two Aussies who met working at lauded yakitori restaurant Yardbird in Hong Kong. Now they’ve returned home and partnered with pal Raph Hyams on a touring pop-up concept with modern Japanese cuisine and drinks.

Nama is taking over the kitchen at Leonard’s Pizza Palace for an all-day menu of bar snacks and an evening set menu. Expect small bites of chicken tsukune (a style of meatballs) yakitori with peanut butter hoisin; XO arancini with red bean mayo; and prawn toast with "Namamite".

The $65 set menu includes three types of pickles; salmon tartare with pickled mustard leaves and yuzu ponzu; a charred Caesar salad with furikake (a crunchy Japanese seasoning) and onsen egg; yuzu-pepper spatchcock; ooey-gooey cacio e pepe udon with dashi butter and cured egg yolk; and for dessert, a take on milk and cookies (featuring burnt butter, dark chocolate and a Coco Pop custard).

Cocktails on the night use drinks from Sunday’s Spirits – also from the Yardbird HK crew – including a sour with Sunday’s Whisky, amazake (low-alcohol sake), peach, and sudachi citrus. DJs will be on the decks all day and night.
