Music from the Studio Ghibli Films of Hayao Miyazaki
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will be perform music from Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki's beloved Japanese animated films at an outdoor concert on the last night of summer.
Making the event particularly special, Miyazaki's 30-plus year collaborator and composer Joe Hisaishi will be there in person to conduct the orchestra, as he did at a similar, sell-out event at Hamer Hall last year.
From 7.30pm, Hisaishi will lead performances of celebrated Studio Ghibli classics including Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro and the Oscar-winning Spirited Away, backed up by cinematic montages from the films.
Sweeping and romantic, the heavily orchestrated compositions fuse both western and Japanese classical traditions. Hisaishi will also lead the MSO in a concert of his other works at Hamer Hall on Wednesday February 26.
Tickets go on sale Monday October 21 at 10am. Sign up for a reminder here.
