Murphy: A Tribute to Australia’s Iconic Dancemaker
Graeme Murphy is Australia’s premier choreographer. He is known for his bold imagination, irreverent humour, profound musicality and a matchless sense of the body in space.
2018 is Murphy’s 50th year with The Australian Ballet. His career in dance began in the company’s corps de ballet, and he then went on to be the head of Sydney Dance Company.
Murphy has also produced landmark productions for The Australian Ballet: he set his version of The Nutcracker in a scorching Melbourne summer; made Swan Lake into a modern love triangle; and charted a dancer’s journey in the moving Beyond Twelve.
To celebrate the career of a dance icon, The Australian Ballet will present a revival of Graeme Murphy’s vividly reimagined Firebird alongside highlights from his career featuring inventive dance, eye-opening design and transcendent music.
The anniversary tribute event will showcase some of Murphy's greatest moments, with excerpts from The Silver Rose, Air and Other Invisible Forces, Grand and Ellipse.
