MTC presents The Sound Inside at Arts Centre Melbourne
In 2019, American novelist, screenwriter and playwright Adam Rapp made his Broadway debut with The Sound Inside at Studio 54. The play went on to receive six Tony Award nominations, including Best Play. Now for the first time Melbourne audiences can enjoy the Australian premiere of Rapp’s emotionally powerful literary detective play, thanks to Melbourne Theatre Company.
Running from Friday May 20 – Saturday July 2, The Sound Inside is directed by Sarah Goodes (Home, I’m Darling) and features Catherine McClements (Three Little Words) and Shiv Palekar (The Real Thing). A masterclass of intelligent and deeply moving theatre, The Sound Inside tells the story of an unexpected bond between two misfits: an Ivy League creative writing professor, Bella, and a talented, enigmatic student, Christopher, as their lives and stories become entangled in unpredictable ways. When Bella makes a surprising request of Christopher, their relationship is tested. It’s a profound and riveting meta-mystery, known for keeping audiences on the edge of their seats.
Showing at the Arts Centre Melbourne’s Fairfax Studio, two of the performances – on Monday May 30 and Monday June 6 – will be followed by a panel conversation with the cast and creative team. MTC also offers audio described performances on Saturday June 11 and Tuesday June 14, a session with open captioning on Saturday June 18, as well as a tactile tour on Saturday June 11, thanks to Vision Australia.
