MSO Sidney Myer Free Concerts
Whether you’re a diehard classical-music fan or simply want to bask in the sounds of the oldest professional orchestra in Australia under the stars, this annual free concert series at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl is sure to hit the spot.
Over three evenings in February, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will again provide the perfect soundtrack for summer picnics.
The series began more than 91 years ago and sometimes attracts crowds of up to 10,000. It starts on Wednesday February 5 with Around the World With the MSO featuring pieces by Strauss, Hindson and Dvořák, alongside a brand-new commission by the Cybec Young Composer in Residence, Jordan Moore. On Saturday February 8, singer Katie Noonan will join the orchestra for Dance, Dance, Dance along with dancers from all-ability dance company e.motion 21. And on Friday February 14, Valentine’s Day, join the MSO Horn Quartet for an evening of Italian romance, centred around La Dolce Vita.
Performances start at 7.30pm and gates open from 4.30pm. Arrive early to nab a space for your rug on the hill.
