See ambitious and creative sculptures at a historic homestead over five days in October.

Five years in the making, the inaugural Melbourne Sculpture Biennale will take place at the Villa Alba Museum, an Italianate heritage site in Kew, this October.

The Burden of Objects is curated by founders and directors Adam Stone (Lon Gallery) and Laura Couttie, and features contemporary sculptural works by 19 Victoria-based artists.

Its directors say that sculpture a challenging medium to master and market, and often costly to create, so the event’s primary goal is to showcase outstanding sculptural works to help increase the medium's visibility within the art industry.

The sculptures will range in traditional sculptural techniques, including carving, moulding, casting, modelling and assembling.

The exhibition runs from October 9 to 13, and will be open daily from 10am to 5pm. Entry is free.
