At Welcome to Thornbury’s event space The Greenhouse, Melbourne Plant Swap will host its inaugural event. As well as a huge plant swap, there’ll be a marketplace with plants and pots, a rare-plant silent auction, potting demos, and a chance to get plant-care tips from experts.
Vendors include Preston nursery Plantsmith, The Plant Runner (a walk-in, mobile plant shop and greenhouse), rare-plant marketplace The Mellow Pot, Coburg-based ceramics label Made by Bowie, and more.
Here’s how the main swap will work. When you register on the day, you’ll be given a number and one token for each plant you include. All plants will be put on a table and when you hear your number you can grab as many plants as you have tokens.
There’ll also be a “unicorn” swap for rare plants (with no tokens required), which you can store in a plant cloakroom before it’s time to start trading.
Ticketholders must bring at least one plant or cutting with them – free of damage, pests and diseases – to ensure there’s enough swappable plants. Most common plants won’t be accepted to keep the offering diverse.
Upon ticket purchase you’ll be sent a short questionnaire, which – if completed – will get you priority entry.
From 1pm to 5.30pm.
