Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2023
Melbourne is once again the funniest city in the world (at least for three weeks) – the annual festival of laughs and chuckles is back.
It officially launches with the Opening Night Comedy Allstars Supershow, hosted by Nanette comedian Hannah Gadsby and bringing together some of the biggest names on the festival line-up. International acts flying over include Urzila Carlson, Melanie Bracewell, Guy Montgomery and James Roque from New Zealand; Dylan Moran and David O’Doherty from Ireland; the UK’s Jordan Gray, Daniel Kitson, Stephen K Amos, Ed Byrne, Rosie Jones, Daniel Sloss, Larry Dean and Lloyd Langford; Americans Arj Barker and Sara Schaefer; Takashi Wakasugi from Japan; Malaysia’s Jason Leong; Lara Ricote from Mexico; and more.
It’s a star-studded local line-up, too, with shows from Anne Edmonds, Claire Hooper, Drag Race judge Rhys Nicholson, Geraldine Hickey, Kitty Flanagan, Ivan Aristeguieta, Luke Heggie, Mel Buttle, Tommy Little and Wil Anderson, among dozens of others.
The Neighbourhood Sessions are back, taking stand-up to Melbourne suburbs including Thornbury, Footscray, Moorabbin, Williamstown and even Rosebud on the Mornington Peninsula. And group showcases give you tastes of the best of Asian comedy, Aboriginal acts, UK breakthrough artists and more.
Strapped for cash but still want to get in on the fun? Dozens of shows on Wednesday April 12 are being discounted, with a special two-for-one ticket deal.
