Meeniyan Garlic Festival
Devoted to the goodness of garlic, Gippsland’s annual Meeniyan Garlic Festival returns for another year. On Saturday February 15, more than 150 stalls will serve everything from bread, scones and butter to ice-cream, coffee and beer – all infused with garlic.
Fifteen local garlic growers will contribute produce to the event, where you can learn about different garlic varieties, watch live cooking demos and get growing tips. Other activities on offer: a sheaf-toss competition, billy-cart time trials, veggie sculpting, a “garlic quest” for kids, as well as cow-milking for … garlic-infused milkshakes?
But it’s not all garlic. The marketplace will also sell fruit and veg, cheese, beer and wine, and art and homewares.
A new addition for this year’s event is the long-table Garlic Feast on Sunday February 16. It’s a $150-a-head garlicky degustation by Alejandro Saravia (Pastuso, Farmer’s Daughters), Trevor Perkins (Hogget Kitchen) and Antony Ellis (The Grove Gippsland) that will showcase the region’s produce. Local wines will be matched to each course.
From 9am to 4pm on Saturday, and 12pm to 4pm on Sunday.
