DJ and restaurateur Grant Smillie is hosting a party, featuring DJs Andy Murphy and Anthony Marr, with all proceeds from ticket sales going to José Andrés’s World Central Kitchen.

Los Angeles County has been battling wildfires since Tuesday January 7. The blazes in the Palisades, Eaton and other parts of LA have killed at least 24 people, displaced thousands and are yet to be contained.

In response to the fires, DJ and restaurateur Grant Smillie is hosting a fundraiser at his California-inspired Crown venue Marmont this Sunday January 26, from 1pm to 8pm. Smillie, an Aria award-winning producer, has called upon friends including DJs Andy Murphy and Anthony Marr, and singer-songwriter Zoë Badwi, to provide music for the event.

In 2014, Smillie moved to Los Angeles – where he runs venues EP & LP, Strings of Life and Grandmaster Recorders – but returned to his hometown Melbourne last year to open Marmont.

“Knowing many people personally impacted by the fires, it’s been hard to watch from afar,” he said. “I thought one of the quickest and easiest things to do is to get some of my DJ friends together to raise some money for those impacted.”

Tickets are $20, with all proceeds from sales going to World Central Kitchen, a non-profit non-government organisation founded by chef José Andrés that responds to natural disasters, man-made crises, and humanitarian emergencies around the world and has been providing meals to those affected by the LA fires.
