From improv gameshows to the first ever comedy show performed by a horse, the Malthouse has it all during this year’s comedy festival.

For 22 nights, Malthouse Theatre transforms into a madhouse as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival – presenting a carefully curated line-up of comedians pushing the boundaries of stand-up, sketch and theatrical comedy. With 23 acts and over 200 shows, the Malthouse is a must-visit festival venue this year.

Among the highlights are Aunty Donna’s Grouse House: Most Upsetting Guessing Game, promising off-the-wall, interactive mayhem as the beloved comedy trio brings its absurd improvisational antics to Merlyn Theatre. Reuben Kaye’s The Kaye Hole delivers the drag artist and cabaret icon’s signature brand of late-night chaos backed by a live band, while UK comedian Elf Lyons presents Horses, a surreal set performed entirely as a horse.

Rising star Elouise Eftos presents an updated version of her award-winning show Australia’s First Attractive Comedian, a sharp and satirical interrogation of self-image and fame, while “two of Australia’s most cherished failed actors”, Hot Department, return with their high-energy, unhinged sketch comedy. For those after something family-friendly, The Listies: 110% Ready is packed with silliness, offering a hilarious take on the chaos of getting ready in the morning.

With a mix of homegrown talent, international heavyweights and genre-defying performances, Malthouse’s comedy season offers something for every sense of humour.
