Australia Post: Making Moves Market at Abbotsford Convent

Want to discover your favourite new fashion label, condiment brand, homewares maker, ceramic artist, jeweller, and skincare brand all in one place? Get ready for the Making Moves Market, a new community market hosted by Australia Post and powered by Broadsheet that spotlights exciting small businesses from across the country. The one-day market takes place at Abbotsford Convent on Saturday, September 20 – and entry is free.

Across 50 stalls spanning fashion, homewares, pets, skincare, crafts, food and ceramics, you’ll get a pulse check on some of Australia’s most creative small businesses.  

On the fashion front, shop threads from genderless Melbourne label Sardine Supply and emerging streetwear brand Sycamore Place, and pick up bold accessories from Im Me, among others. Plus, shop merch and statement accessories from First Nations jewellery label Haus of Dizzy. With the warmer weather rolling in, you can also get prepped for summer at a stall by swimwear brand Doxxia. Kids get to dress up, too, with upcycled outfits by Kind Clothes Club available to shop.

There’ll also be plenty of pantry goods to stock up on. Umei’s plant-based mayos (a favourite of Masterchef judge Sofia Levin) are perfect for dumplings, onigiri and salads. On the fermentation front, shop award-winning jars from small-batch Daylesford brand The Fermentary, plus pickled goodies from local favourite Acide. To amp up your cooking, buy a bottle of Greek olive oil from family-run Golden Groves. Or start your homemade matcha journey and hit Miou Matcha’s stall for a chawan (matcha bowl), chasen (bamboo whisk) and the glorious green tea powder for a matcha made in heaven.

If you’re a ceramics lover, you’re in for a treat. Rittle King will bring its playful ceramics (which you might’ve spotted at Masses Bagels), while Yolkeye Ceramics will have food-inspired wares aplenty, including Kewpie mayo vases that look good enough to eat. For more unusual homewares, check out Hunker’s ultra-chic recycled toilet stools and another emerging maker we’re very excited about: Minnow Glass.

Plus, stock up on local skincare and haircare from labels like Gracious Minds, Embrace your Frizzique and family-friendly bodycare brand Ukoo.

We’d never let you go hungry, so there’ll be food trucks from A1 Bakery and Toasta. Plus, Australia Post’s Peak-Me-Up coffee van is rolling into the convent grounds for the day with, well, plenty of grounds thanks to Roasting Warehouse. As for entertainment, there’ll be DJs and a live show by local outfit Barefoot Spacemen. Plus, expect kids’ entertainment like face painting, colouring-in activities, a roaming giant-bubble performer and a glitter tattoo artist (which adults are welcome to line up for too, of course).
