Making Good: Redesigning the Everyday at NGV Australia

Fri Aug 29, 2025 – Sun Feb 01, 2026

The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia

Federation Square, Melbourne

A new exhibition demonstrates how design is driving positive change.

Making Good is a new exhibition bringing together more than 50 local and international designers using design to rethink the objects and systems that shape daily life – from health, food and fashion to furniture and construction. On show at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, the free exhibition highlights the innovative products, processes and materials shaping a more sustainable future.

Showcasing prototypes, everyday products and pieces from the NGV Collection, works in Making Good range from the practical to the playful: sofas that cocoon you, terrazzo made from oyster shells, air-purifying paints and biodegradable packaging. Together, they show how design can do more than look good – it can clean the air, extend a product’s life span or develop new ways to reduce and reuse waste.

Fashion also gets a rethink, with eco-friendly running shoes that spread seeds as you walk, a leather alternative made from seafood waste, and adaptive clothing designed to combat fast-fashion alternatives. Healthcare innovations, like plastic-free pregnancy tests and microbiome-safe personal products, reveal how human-centred design can respond to both social and environmental needs.

Making Good runs until February 1, 2026.
