Lygon Street Market
Carlton’s Argyle Square will host a new monthly market. The Lygon Street Market in the park will have stalls selling art, handmade jewelry, photography and homewares.
The new community-focused event is from the team behind Fitzroy’s popular Rose Street Artists’ Market, which has been going since 2003. It was initially inspired by the Brooklyn Flea in New York.
The Lygon Street Market debuted on Sunday September 1 and will return on the first Sunday of each month (except for October 2024, when it will run on Saturday October 5). Rose Street Market currently has 60 stalls and a two-year waiting list for new vendors. The team hopes this new offering will open up more possibilities for artists to break onto the scene.
Vendors at the first market sold illustrations, temporary tattoos, handmade jewelry, photography and homewares, as well as panini, cannoli and gelato.
Dates are confirmed for markets until the end of the year, and the final market for 2024 on Sunday December 1 will be a special Christmas market.
